BRAND NEW FUNK & LETS GET FUNKY REMIXES

The idea for the remixes came in conversation with Grey when discussing the roots of house and techno and how funk played a huge part in their early development in the States. Grey asked me to listen to the EP and see if any tracks stood out to possibly do something with. On first listen absolutely any would have done! This was pure funk and as such had the kinda riffs, hooks and arrangement that perfectly compliments a techno or how re-working. My only brief was to keep the Stateside feel and as such I went for a Chicago-style House track and some post-millennium New York-style Disco.

'Brand New Funk' is such a solid dance track in its own right that I stuck closely to the original song, swapping the percussion for a tough sounding drum machine and re-arranging the phrasing to suit a modern dance pattern. The upbeat feel and the almost preacher-like vocal delivery lent itself beautifully towards that classic house sound. The reworking I hope provides a tougher alternative to the original.

'Let's Get Funky' was worked into an idea I'd had for some time. I'd recently DJed at a House night where the promoter had asked for a Minimal House set. I'm used to playing a larger variety of tunes and when I felt I needed to break-up my set a little I dropped a funky bass heavy track and the place went crazy. I wanted therefore to make a track that could slot nicely into a Minimal set yet keep some of that traditional house sound. I was inspired too by some of the tracks I hear François Kevorkian play with that kinda New York/ New Wave/ Post Disco feel and I'm more than happy with the result.
